...Now that I've been pondering for a bit more, perhaps Minecraft CAN have some form of experience. Basically, there is this small key-binded window (to your Minecraft Guy, a journal/diary) that records all sorts of fun statistics, from blocks mined, to monsters killed, to damage taken. (that's what experience is, right?) What does it do? It lists the amount of experience you have, with all those different variables rounded off to give you a relative power level. This power level merely shows how much stuff you've done as a player on any specific server, and serves no other purposes.
i really like this actually, a leveling system that doesnt give you any sort of advantage, mostly for bragging rights.
id like to see:
number of each enemy killed
number of ore mined
longest time survived
number of times killed
and i think someone also mentioned something similar to achievements, that would be pretty cool too.
so if youve finished building castles and dont much feel like mining anymore, now you have something to achieve.
some ideas are (i know someone posted some on here but i didnt read them, sorry for duplicates):
killing 1000 creepers/skeletons/spiders/zombies (each its own acheivement)
surviving 100 days
digging to the bottom of the world
building to the top of the world
collect 1000 diamond
collect 1000 gold
collect 10,000 iron
collect 50,000 coal
these are just a few i could think of, im sure there are tons more.
keep in mind these should be difficult to keep people striving to achieve.
i also feel like these are all directed towards what minecraft is, mining for rare ores, fighting enemies, surviving and building.

no, unless they added a new game mode, then it would simply not be minecraft. it's not and rpg, it's a survival horror, also having that kind of advantage over your enemy would cause imbalance and once you reach the top level. A new game mode like that could be cool though, so son't throw the idea away :biggrin.gif:
ahh, thats true, i never thought about it like that. but like you said, a new game mode would be cool, maybe an short rpg story mode? id be pretty excited for that

Not very minecraftian.
Minecraft is about earning the right to use diamond equipment by finding diamonds, not slaying zombies until you learn how to use it (Which is a concept that makes absolutely no sense and the lack of it is one of the reasons I enjoy minecraft).
IMO, this is one of those things where people are trying to turn Minecraft into something it isn't. Your character advances when you locate rarer materials and craft things from them. Experience points and leveling would be redundant with that. Let Minecraft be Minecraft and leave leveling to WoW.
Kinda depends. Had this random idea of perks (when leveling up) that wouldn't be too overpowered, but still pretty cool, like creeper-type explosion on death.

Roses are red, violets are blue,
some poems rhyme, this one doesn't.
see everyone here is trollin about leveling up but i think it would be good and keep the game fun. as for being too uber, maybe when biomes are added, u could have stronger enemies in different biomes.

Please remember that most of these people fail an aspie test(autism test). There tiny little minds cant hold the complexity of a leveling system.

No leveling. EVER.
