Will the console editions ever get mods and will we be able to make our own skins/ texture packs and why is the resolution only 32x32 for the texture packs they give. The potential for the next gen consoles is high and yet 4j leaves us with low. We should be able to download famous texture packs and mods, at least a monthly vote on the next mod/ texture pack that will be put in the game.
I think this poll is kinda pointless. Doesn't matter if all of us minecrafters want mods (and all of us don't)- 'we' don't have a say in the matter- it's totally up to the console makers, and 'we' aren't gonna change their minds on this. 'We' will probably never be able to make our own mods or skins, no matter how much 'we' want to.
This game, and 90% of life in america, is not a democracy. Your "majority rules" mean nothing. You have no power as an individual over a video game company, there is no voting system.
I'd like to see you try your BS at work (if you do in fact work). Take your co workers, go on strike and ask for a million dollar a year salary and see what happens. You would be immediately going from a picket line to an unemployed line.
This is a game, not a government, it is not a democracy, it is a dictatorship. It is their game, they own it, they can - and will - do with it as they please, whether or not the majority likes it.

While it is true that the game company can do what it likes, that hardly means that the consumer has no power. In fact, it could be argued that the consumer has most of the power as the consumer can choose to not buy the product. Good gaming companies listen to their fanbase when a feature or change is requested by a large enough portion.

I'm not sure why you're being so hostile toward the guy, he seems to be asking a genuine question. Also, your horrid analogy is quite laughable. Equating the request to have a feature on one platform that is present on another platform is in no way the same as asking for a million dollar raise.

Consoles ≠ mods.
PC = mods.
I'm not sure why you think "all of us don't" want mods. That's just ridiculous. The modding community has been a staple of minecraft since it was created. To assume that suddenly no one wants mods because it has been brought to consoles is pretty silly
It would be interesting if they allowed people to use custom or imported texture packs on the PS4, considering they are trying to sell their own packs for ~$2.50 a piece.
I have no idea why you dug up a 3 month old thread.
I think you selectively picked parts of what I said and put them together to make it sound like I said something else.
BTW, there are some people who don't want or like mods- I don't. So?

If you look carefully, I actually just quoted your entire post. I'm not sure where you're getting this "selective" nonsense from. Also, you didn't say "some" people, you said "all of us don't." There's a rather large difference between the two sentiments. My main point was about Landayen, not you. There is no reason to be hostile to someone who posts a legitimate poll with a pertinent question. Simple as that.
Again, the quote I posted is your entire post, not just "part". Feel free to scroll up if you like.
I don't think they would ever just let us download any mod. Mostly because of copyright reasons, but I think it would be cool if the FTB team was hired and their packs could work like DLC...maybe...

PC mods literally cannot be ported to console editions because either edition is written in entirely different languages (Java for PC, likely C/C++ for console). So FTB DLC wouldn't be possible, let alone any PC mod DLC.
Believe
it or not, Mods will NEVER happen and here's why. As you may already
know that mods for Minecraft PC require a certain path for them to be
able to work and by that I mean the mod has to be loaded via a file in
the SYSTEM (PC) which grants access to the system correct? And with the
recent hackings and past hackings of Sony and Xbox I doubt they would
give 3rd parties access to the specified files or something along the
lines of that. Although I too would like custom textures and or skins.
That isn't even close to how mods are loaded... another mod known as a loader is installed (typically Forge) which loads mods from a folder inside a special directory. This allows mods to be installed externally without directly editing the .jar file of the game, dramatically improving compatibility with other mods and ease-of-installation. Because you can't legally access the game's binaries on consoles you would not be able to install a loader and thus wouldn't be able to easily install mods.
And PC Minecraft is technically open for any user to edit the files if they have the correct files to add into the .jar file, and they know how to. PC Minecraft is not locked down and doesn't need a special file to "access" the system.

Bit of a defintional debate, but "porting" often involves rewriting a game into a different language, to put it onto different platforms.
Releasing mods on console isn't really held back by programing difficulties of porting but by more business orientated issues: policies of platform holders, monetisation, potential copyright claims etc.
Porting is a pretty significant limitation, but yes it is up with those.
Modding how it stands today relies heavily on something called reflection to get instances of and view instances of objects without explicit instances being needed (so say FML / whatever loader you're using can use reflection to look at your mod's classes and underlying code without knowing or forcing the code's layout, so you can name the class whatever you like, same goes with methods, and all you need to do is denote an annotation flagging that class / method as what it's meant to be relative to the given context), and also requires the flexibility of Java's libraries and class loading to maintain such ease of installation. To my knowledge C/C++ does not provide either of these (can't say for certain about reflection, almost certain on the flexibility of class loading and libraries), that and you'd need to rewrite the mod to work with C/C++'s code "rules", which seems easy but isn't considering mods make heavy use of interfaces, annotations, reflection (as already stated), ASM (real-time dynamic bytecode injection, generation and modification library), and other Java-unique features.

think its time to dust off this old topic, its been a while sincethis thread was created and tbh I was kinda sad to see that people think that consoles well never get mods, how ever it seams like alot of people on here was wrong unless its the voters, but after watching and doing a bit of reading it seams like we can expect Mods onto ps4 or xbox, I don't think your be able to get certian mods but more of mod packs, I know personal I would love to some of the yogcast modpacks my self like resdent Rise 2 or 3, whats your fav mod pack that you would like to see come to console?

Under the current way modding and the game itself works, no, you're not likely to see modding unless it comes from 4J themselves. This is why.

well 4-j them selfs has been throwing hints around that modded minecraf onto the consules are coming
Then they won't install them
Locking.
As mentioned before, mods violate Sony and Microsoft TOS. Do not post threads requesting them.
